My personal statement
Born in
Bethlehem Pennsylvania, I moved to Bremerton Washington at the age of 18 where
I resided for 22 years. I relocated to Germanton NC in 1995. I now work as owner/
instructor at The Gray
Wing Studio.
While receiving
my degree from Northwest College of Art in Poulsbo Wa. I became part of the faculty
in a pioneer program teaching art to children in a college
environment.
Since my move
to NC I have served a 3 year term as Co-Chair on the board of North
Carolina Arts for Health and was a active member in the
International Society for Arts and Heath for 6 years. I annually
enroll and instruct over 100 home educated art students at my
studio. The Gray Wing offers summer art camps each year serving
100’s of youth
from several NC
counties. I have served as creator and director in various community
mural programs. These
projects include a mural for Kyle and Patty Petty’s Victory Junction
Gang Camp and a
17 x 7 FT
Veteran’s Tribute mural
installed at The Federal Building in Winston Salem at the Center for
Veteran’s Affairs. I taught painting lessons to Vietnam veterans dealing
with post traumatic stress . A grant from the local arts council was
given to me in 2001 to instruct a workshop to a group of painters
dealing with cancer.
My greatest
passion is using my talent for ministry. At my church in Kernersville NC I established the heART of
the Artist Praise Painting Ministry, a form of painting
on a large format parallel to the singing segment of a church
worship service or special musical productions. Art needs to be more
than just art for me. Art needs a God Purpose. Therefore, my
husband Vernon and I opened up The Gray
Wing Studio in 2004 .
The Gray Wing
also serves as a “base camp” for the theater group (Carolina Skyline
Players). Many of us in the drama group spent over 10 years together
as a church drama group and decided we could reach more of the
community by getting into the community. We present fall and spring
comedy Dessert Theater Productions to sold out
crouds.
In addition to art students ranging from ages 8 – adults I
lead groups of teens abroad for Christian Leadership Conference
Training under the direction of Dr. Phil Johnson of Global Next
Ministries. With Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and Ireland already behind us our next
conference is to Auschwitz Poland in Feb of 2009. A
body of paintings and drawings to educate and bring awareness to
this historical horror by exhibiting through out North
Carolina communities is planned. My
paintings will depict
seeing the light of God amidst
the evil acts of man.
With God as the master navigator, none of this would
be possible without the loving and incredible support I receive from
my husband Vernon, our son Jared , our
daughter Emily and son-in-law Joe.
In Him I Live, Patti
